Traxxas Rustler XL-5
I just got a Traxxas Rustler XL-5 and bumped it up with a Venom 7 cell 3000 Mah battery and did some runs outside with it. Truck is 3 days old……
- First day It ran on street like this
- Second day I took it to a track made out of the orange clay that baseball fields are made of
- The third day I ran it pretty hard on the street again
The two times that it crashed into my brothers back tire did zero harm to the truck, except maybe knock the trim a little out of place. The car runs between 35 and 40 mph on my NiMH battery which is what I’m using here.
When you run it real real hard, lasts about 15 mins. takes 55 minutes to charge on 3Amps. Truck is also waterproof. Best $250 ever spent. Definitely a keeper, I would recommend getting this magnificent truck to any and everyone.
One suggestion is if you’re going to be running in on a track, upgrade the tires… they get close to no traction.

lol the only reason i watched this is becasue i got the velineon system and a 3s lipo and i wanted to see how slow this thing was when i first got it
i got the slash xl-5 and its great with stock 7cell 3000mah battery but you hav to pretty much stop to tun uor it flips over and absolutely wrecks the shell when it scrapes the tarmac

if you have multiple batterys wait for the motor to cool down if you feel the back if is very hot also clean out the motor every time your done running it with like compressed air dont use anything damp

its weird to me that this is like the base model from traxxas now. Mine maxes at around 43mph and i get scared when going full throttle.. why would you need some of these cars that do 60-70 or more lol
I tried the setup with 3s it was way way to stupid fast, impossible to control and would wheele at near any speed if I pulled the trigger just a smidge too fast. that is to say I managed to get it to 90% throttle and the last 10% was enough to flip it.
Your Titan 12t blows really fast because they are a very bad motor.
upgrade to brushelss and get a 5000 or better 2s lipo batt, I did it thru Hobbyking for 100$ on the motor/esc set and 24$ for a 5200 2s hardcase lipo on my bandit.
run times are near 50 min and its about 30% faster than stock. near 85kph.
wtf? 40 mph are you retared? you can do 40 with a brushless system but not with the xl5.
@fredhuerta1 it might be cuase your running too hard or too big of batteries. usually use 6 cell. but get a reedy i think 17t. you might want a new esc if you do but i havnt had any probs. if u use 7 cell you will do weelies and it will run bout 50mph.(i have my slipper clutch set a little low). eventually you will have to get new gears though(i got the ones for the rustler vxl) its fast as hell. but really look into it.
@fredhureta1 this happens because titan motors suck, i have the stampede xl5 smae shit happened to me motor blown got to get a new one, u blown it cause u ran through a huge pound of water. u did not break in the motor and u go fast straight off all the time. that weakens it, and makes the motor fucked up,or u ran through sand and sand got in there and blew the motor. im switching to brushless so i rather do that and qiut buying new motors evry 2 months or so
my vxl was once a xl5, i went through 4 titan 12 turns before going vxl velineon, now ive never had an issue with anything. havent even broke a part yet, because alot of its flm lol

the 2nd week i got this truck the motor craped out and the tool they gave me stripped the little bar holding the pinion gear to the motor tht rlly pissed me off its still down my losi mini lst never had prombles like this : i thought traxxas was supposed to be good thts y i bought it cuz there in all the magazines and im dissapointed
@kwyjibosponge mine burnt out after 3 weeks, and my dad calld traxxas to get the same motor for free (bcaus hees too cheap to get the vxl motor…..)

I got an xl5 for christmas and wanted to upgrade to brushless. Do i need to buy the motor and esc or just the motor?

if you have that battery then with the velineon you will fly!!! like 20mph faster
looks crappy and is still way to low for hill-climbing- if you wanted a hillclimber why not just buy one?

Question ive been trying to find an answer for, but couldn’t sorry this may be stupid im kinda new to RC. If I upgrade from the Titan 12t and the XL5 to the velineon brushless power system, will i get a speed increase without buying a new battery? ( I got a 7 cell 4500mah 8.4v right now)

i will probably do 30 with 7 cell and 35 with the 8. if u ever plan on upgrading to brushless..just get the vxl..cheaper to get it than upgrade later.
get a vxl and dont waste your money on nimh go lipo from the start and put in training mode, or else you will spend a lot of money working up to get a lipo.
