RCRedBaron’s First Nitro Plane! That was Fun Flying!

Anybody Recognize the Make of this plane? Where I might get more info on it? UPDATE: Finally found this plane in a magazine. It’s a Hobby-Lobby TeleMaster! An older version. I picked this plane up from a field buddy, put a brand new SuperTigre 45 motor on it, Held my breath and took off! I havent flown nitro planes in 20 years, and even then, I didnt really fly them that much. I was quite nervous!!! But after 10 minutes of flying, I’m lucky I still have nerves to be shot. Thanks for watching, and please, if anyone knows what plane this is, or where I can get info on it, I would appreciate it. Thanks! Nitro planes are different animals than electric. Generally they’re not as responsive, but the fact they have a lot more mass, they fly a lot more realistic. And they’re easier to go large scale.

Both fun, but electric planes have come so far you can own a variety, when it’s hard to justify having fun with a nitro (unless you’ve got gobs of money to own a couple or expensive one).

My brother was nerve wrecked when he got his newest nitro plane as well. He was into it as a kid and got back into the swing of it years later. He is enjoying it though. I believe we are going to our secret area to fly and drive my savage tomorrow lol.

There are lots of kits that contain everything you need to get started with Nitro Planes. Depending on your flying experience already, there are lots to choose from. high wing cub style for closer to beginner to a P-51 Mustang Trainer for pilots with flying experience. Try to get one from your local hobby shop so they can help you, and go flying with a buddy that already has experience so he/she can help too. Going alone will probably frustrate the experience.

I new to nitro planes and im just wondering what is everything i need to build a nitro trainer plane?

  6. popcornreviews says:

looks like a 50-60 size trainer. i cant tell what make because so many people custom make planes like these because they are so simple!

  7. RCRedBaron says:

I appreciate the effort in figuring out what she is. Everyone I talk to says it probably is a trainer for this size. Im running a .46 2stroke in her, and during this whole flight, I really didnt go above 1/2 throttle. At one point I pushed to 3/4 stick and she bulletted across the sky. Its incredible just how Light this plane is. I love it. It’s a fun relaxing nitro plane. If something happened to this plane, I would try to replace it. Thanks again

I can,t tell ya for sure what brand it is but it looks like a hobbico 60 trainer .That style trainer seems to be the most pouplar nitro plane that everyone I know has. Many different manufactures produce this style of nitro plane.Your flying skills are fine but the plane looked to be a bit underpowered thats why I say its a 60 size plane.Ive never flown a nitro plane either how did you like it would you buy another one? ” good vid”

  9. popcornreviews says:

    very cool!!!
id faint flying one of them!
    i get so nervous!
    i get nervous flying electric!

  10. RCRedBaron says:

Oh don’t you know it! It’s hard to believe after 2 full days of flying, all I think about at work is when is the next weekend going to get here!! LOL

I’ll let my son know your kind comments about his filming. He’ll appreciate it!

Whoa! Thats a big boy! Your First Nitro huh? you looked like an old pro to me! Looping, rolling, looked like you tried to put her in a flat spin, Hmm? I could see the wind knocking you around on the landing too! That thing really has some lift with those huge wings!
Another Fine 5* video RedBaron! I really got to get to Orlando!

  14. RCRedBaron says:

Thanks for the info. We did both of your suggestions. Let me ask you this, I noticed if I tried to throttle quickly from half to full stick, the motor seemed to have stuttering but then smoothed out. Thats why I was nervous. Even though we set our low rpm and we held it vertical and no issues. Is it normal to have to slowly throttle up and down?

As far as electric goes, You should find that it’s easier to transition as the electric motors are instant responsive to stick. Plug and Play!

  15. cyberteque says:

if you’re worried about the motor stopping set the throttle stop so at minimum throttle its at a fast idle.
Before you fly, flip the plane up vertical, if the engine stalls its too lean, keep adjusting till it idles without being “lumpy”. There shouldn’t be that much difference with power plants. I have yet to try a brushless electric plane, going to get an F35 or F18 like the one’s you have a video of, I hope the transition from glow plug to edf is not too traumatic!

  16. RCRedBaron says:

Oh man, my Nerves were way up! I was more nervous about throttling too quickly and killing the motor during flight. But of course I had to try and roll / loop her! Then the guys are yelling, time to land, you’re gonna run out of fuel! I yelled back “But, I don’t know how to land!” LOL My nerves went way up on landing as Im used to being able to Cut throttle completely, coast, add a little throttle. I just didnt want to bang her up on the first day!

Thanks for watching!! and the Comment!

  17. RCRedBaron says:

I still love my Electric EDF jets and props. So simple, like you said, plug and play! But!! There is something about the roar of the motor and smell of the nitro, and the size of the plane that gets you going!

    Thanks man!

  18. RCRedBaron says:

Yes Sir! The wind was 10 to 15mph, gusting here and there. The thing has Way More Lift than anything I’m used too. So trying to land, the wind just picked me right back up again. But 2 flights so far, and both good to go again.

    Thanks!!!

  19. cyberteque says:

it looks vaguely familiar, maybe a plan included with the US pulication Radio Control Models or the UK RCM&E?
    It did look pretty light!
What’s this crap about nerves?! Sweet rolls and loops! lol
Electrics are ok, but nothing beats a glow plug engine!!
    Great flight!

  20. youtwoba says:

Yes very cool bud, you got to love that nitro. Is it worth all the effort though. Of course it is, I love my electric though. Plug and Play :) You made my hands sweat on the landing though. She lives another day! Great Job.

  21. attackangle says:

Now thats what I’m talking about. That crosswind landing was tough enough.
    5er

  22. RCRedBaron says:

It’s Aileron, Rudder, Elevator. It is beefy! But VERY LIGHT! It flys great! I love it, I was just trying to find info on it to read more about it.

    Thanks!

  23. sslusshy says:

Hmm not sure never seen one like that. I only have a trainer and a j-3 cub nitro. Rest are electrics. It looks pretty beefy though. It just rudder elevator?

  24. ddddfffss124 says:

    Thanks for the advice!

  25. reatard132 says:

the reason why there is one tube to the carb and one to the muffler is because when you get flying there is positive pressure in the tank so it pumps the fuel into the carb, also when you are priming it you can plug the exhaust and crank it.
i have rc car engines and thats how we do it
