Mike’s First RC Plane Flight With A Firebird Phantom

UPDATE!!!! This video was mentioned on Horizon Hobby’s RC Cast today. April 9, 2009. Thanks to Gary for mentioning it. You can listen to the podcast at the following link. Be sure to click on the April 9, 2009 podcast to hear it. Gary from Horizon Hobby starts talking about the video at 21:40 in the podcast. www.horizonhobby.com This is a video of my good friend Mike and his FIRST RC SOLO. Yes, I captured it on video and this is his RC flight. He and I were friends a long time ago when a gigabyte was unheard of and we ran a “BBS” bulletin board system, and the internet was just beginning. Since then, we grew apart, but over 10 years later we met in a restaurant and find out we only live 4 miles apart now. A great new friendship was made again. What a coincidence? Mike just got an RC plane and he and I are ripping up the broadband again, but with a twist. Enjoy this video and look forward to more. Thanks, Eric www.AroundTuitVideos.com

  13. yputup says:

Mike you have got to maintain a sustained level flight.. Lucky that you are flying a super stable design otherwise it would have crashed right after the climb and stall.

  14. totofrizou says:

Now try a nitro……that’s when the real flying begins. I’d recommend a buddy box system, though.

its an evolution .36 , but ive got it going it now, i believe iwas just moving the low speed needle too much when adjusting, i started moving it very little at a time, and started to see results,,Currently it runs can run vertical for long times, but sometimes stalls at idle ,and hesitates during acceleration. It seems to not react much when i turn the high speed needle valve, and sometimes runs for a min rough, then picks up rpm’s and runs smoother on its own, after a min.

  28. modelaircraft says:

Welcome to model aviation. If your airplane can takeoff from grass, landing should not be a problem. Don’t know what kind of airplane you have but keep the grass shorter than about 1 1/2 inch.
Cool glow plugs will not work well in some engines. What engine?

  29. phatgonk says:

i just purchased my 1rst balsa plane. It is .25-.40 size, teqipped with an evo.36.. I was wondering if landing in grass was okay. It has has fairly large wheels.I havnt put it up yet because engine was stalling on the bench after pulling glow ignitor..Not sure yet but im thinking low speed needle set was changed after the engine was crashed. it has a set rite on low speed needle. i was also using a different plug than reccomended though, it think its a cooler plug..
